LAPEER COUNTY, MI -- Open burning has been temporarily banned in three Lapeer County townships due to extremely dry conditions and the prospect of no rain for the next several days. The city of Lapeer, which does not allow open burning at any time, announced the new short-term restrictions for Lapeer, Mayfield and Oregon townships in a news release on Thursday, June 1. Even burn permits that have already been granted in those areas have been temporarily suspended, the announcement from Lapeer Fire Chief Michael Vogt says.
